To help you become “investor ready” we will typically undertake a review (or preparation) of a strategic plan, market needs for products and services, marketing materials, personnel, management and reporting systems, as well as financial analysis and forecasts. The investor will make a judgment based principally on two things, business prospects (the what and the how) and the people who will bring this about (the who).
It is important to canvas alternative approaches under a rigorous framework. Our analysis, review process and independent views ensure all potential strategies are explored. This is the nuts and bolts of the Offer Document – it covers all aspects of the business, how it will be run, where its revenues and profits will come from, what controls will be in place and which people will be responsible for making it all happen. Writing an effective business plan requires consideration & resolution of hard questions, a solid understanding of market dynamics, rigorous analysis and firm decision-making. It needs to set milestones that will be met within a realistic timetable and at a cost and profit that can be achieved. There are 2 levels of personnel the investor will be looking at – management and the Board of Directors. Ideally both should be able to prove a history of success in running and building an entrepreneurial business to profitability. A mix of industry and general business experience is preferable. We locate the right people not only for key management positions but also to take Board roles to ensure that investors are given the right blend of experience and vitality they are likely to be looking for. Once we believe the enterprise is investor ready, offer documentation is prepared. This includes a concise description of what the funds are required for and how they will be expended. Potential investor questions are anticipated and addressed. We frequently seek external PR about the company and its prospects prior to launching the offer to both widen the prospective investor net and also to create positive views of the business. The other side of the business preparation phase is that we only assist businesses with high growth potential. Our evaluation of enterprise potential and the people who run it is an important check point for potential investors, and this itself lends us and edge when approaching potential equity participants. We also seek strategically important partnerships.
